I found Annie's constant fretting and angst about not living up to expectations to be rather tiring after awhile. Her father was intolerable throughout the book. The focus on an ancient Hawaiian god cult seemed unbelievable in a modern age. Overall, I found it fairly boring but made myself finish it.
